In Moon Bears, we are introduced to one of the eight different species of bear—the Asiatic black bear. Mark Newman focuses on the individual moon bears living at the Animals Asia Moon Bear Rescue Centers in China and Vietnam. Each bear we meet has a name and helps the reader to visualize moon bear behavior, life cycle, and habitat. Each page has large pictures of moon bears with highly factual text. As a result, the reader is given a good amount of information with attention-keeping photographs. At the end of the book, Newman includes more facts about moon bears in a bulleted list followed by a list of recommended further reading. Moon Bears is a great introduction to an interesting and little known bear species.
