Book review: You’re in Trouble, by Caroline Adderson, illustrated by Ben Clanton

Adderson, Caroline. You’re in Trouble. (Jasper John Dooley series, book 4) Illustrated by Ben Clanton. Kids Can Press, 2015. $15.95. ISBN 9781554538089. 122 pgs. Ages 7-10. P8Q7.

Adderson You're in TroubleI enjoyed this fast paced, funny story about Jasper John Dooley, who drinks a forbidden sugar and caffeine loaded energy drink and soon becomes an addict, sneaking sips whenever he opens the refrigerator door. He becomes filled with crazy energy whenever he does this and very soon, his “bad” acts begin to add up! The simple illustrations give a good sense of Jasper–he really isn’t a bad kid, but his small rebellions will give elementary age kids a lot to relate to. The story is simple and really funny, but actually has some important lessons: Our actions have consequences, and following compulsions or crazy impulses can get us in trouble.
