Book review: Germs : Fact and Fiction, Friends and Foes, by Lesa Cline-Ransome, illustrated by James Ransome

Cline-Ransome, Lesa. Germs : Fact and Fiction, Friends and Foes. illus. James Ransome. Christy Ottaviano Books, 2017. unp. $17.98. ISBN: 978-0-8050-7915-9. Gr. 2+. P7 Q8

In a story narrated by Sam Salmonella, brightly colored illustrations introduce the world of single celled organisms, including their history from the time of the dinosaurs to the modern day. What is a good germ is and what bad germs are covered. How often have I heard a young a child say, “Oooh, germs.” This should stop after reading this book. The bright colored illustrations of the germs, food and people helps to support the text. This early nonfiction work includes a glossary, but no other back matter.
