Book review: Dinosaurium, by Lily Murrary, illustrated by Chris Wormell

Murray, Lily. Illustrated by Chris Wormell. Dinosaurium. (Welcome to the Museum series.) Big Picture Press, an imprint of Candlewick Press, 2017. $35.00. ISBN 9780763699000. Unp. Ages 7+. P8 Q9

Dinosaurium is a self-proclaimed dinosaur museum. It is a  visually stunning and scientifically informative resource on Earth’s natural history. While the big names like T-Rex, Stegosaurus, and Triceratops are all present, we also learn about dozens of the little-known suborders. The museum follows the cladogram, or dinosaur family tree, along the prehistoric time-line. Young readers will enjoy the detailed images. The last section covers prehistoric non-dinosaurs and extinction. Older readers will appreciate the content that is informative without being dense. An index is located at the back.

Verdict: This is a wonderful resource on dinosaurs and related topics. While it is marketed to 8-12 year olds, it will be enjoyed by a broader audience.
