Book review: Mr. Moon Wakes Up, by Jemima Sharpe

Sharpe, Jemima. Mr. Moon Wakes Up. Child’s Play, 2016. $7.99. ISBN 9781846436949. Unp.  Ages 4-8. P8 Q8

Green illustrations give a mystical tone of wondering what is “Mr. Moon,” a cat or dog that always sleeps or some other imagined creature. When Mr. Moon wakes up one night, his child companion follows him as he goes on adventure through the vines where he finds peacocks, mermaids, satyrs, and cupids (or angels, characters with wings).  He walks in the park making friends, plays chess, plays badminton, goes through a maze, reads a book, goes boating, attends a tea party, and then goes to bed.

Verdict: The fun way of looking at a dream engages students in imagining and makes this book an excellent addition to the library.
