Book review: Wolf Camp, by Andrea Zuill

Zuill, Andrea. Wolf Camp. Schwartz & Wade Books, 2016. $16.99. ISBN 9780553509120. Unpaged. Ages 4-8. P8Q8

zuill-wolf-campHomer is a dog who feels the call of the wild from time to time. When he hears about a week long wolf camp for dogs, he knows he must go! He pesters his people until they give in and he goes away to camp. Kids will love the quirky illustrations of homely Homer, his co-campers, and his wolf counselors, and those who have been to a camp will understand the campers’ feelings of discomfort and homesickness. Homer writes home to his people and complains about the food (it has hair in it and tastes funny). Verdict: This book will be a favorite for read-alongs and storytimes. Readers should take time to look carefully at the humor in the illustrations.
