Book review: On the Run, by Tristran Bancks

Bancks, Tristan. On the Run. Farrar, Straus, Giroux, 2015. 227 pages. ISBN 978-0-374-30153-8. Gr. 6+. P7 Q6

bancks-on-the-runBancks weaves a relatable tale about a boy and his family on the run from the police. Ironically, protagonist Ben Silver wants to be a cop when he grows up. In the meantime, the twelve-year-old is content to make stop-motion videos in his room. That all changes when his parents burst into house and force Ben and his sister, Olive, to pack for their first ever vacation. Ben eventually finds out that his parents benefited from a bank error and decided to run away with cash–to the tune of $7.8 million. They escape to a dilapidated cabin in the woods where Ben and his sister end up in a survival situation with the police not far behind.

September 2016 review by Carrie Lipnick.

[Editor’s note: A young adult novel originally published and set in Australia.]
