Book review: They All Saw a Cat, by Brendan Wenzel

Wenzel, Brendan. They All Saw a Cat. Chronicle, 2016. $16.99. 44p. ISBN 9781452150130. Ages 4-7. P9Q9

wenzel-they-all-saw-a-catRepetition and the opportunity to “see” in a myriad of ways makes this book a delightful sharing experience with young children. Each pages shows a different perspective in which to “see” a cat—a child who likes the fluffy creature, the fish in a bowl frightened by the gigantic eyes, and the bee who sees the world as a set of dots, the flea that looks through the fur, etc. Double-page spreads use pencils, watercolor, pastels, and oil. Both fun and educational, an opening to discussion about how we all see things differently.
