Neye, Emily. Illustrations by Tom Leonard. Honeybees. (Step into Reading, Step 2 series.) Random House Children’s Books,  2016. $3.99. 32 pages. ISBN 9780307262172. Preschool to Grade 1. P6 Q8

Neye HoneybeesHoneybees is an illustrated guide to honeybees for very early readers and those learning to read. We learn about habitat, feeding and defensive behavior, and threats to honeybees. Short sentences and large text make this an approachable science reader. The limited vocabulary is defined within the text; there is no need for a glossary. Each illustration is scientifically accurate while remaining bright and colorful. Young readers will be interested to learn how honey is made and how bees interact with predators. Honeybees is a successful reading and science resource for new readers.
