Vives, Bastien, Michael Sanlaville, and Balak. Last Man, v.3: The Chase. First Second, 2015. $9.99. 208p. 9781626720480. Ages 14+. P8Q8

Balak Last Man 3After the mysterious Richard Aldana, lover to young Adrian Velba’s mother Marianne, disappears on his motorcycle, mother and son pursue him across the desert on a found motorcycle. Their search leads them to a red-light city, Nillipolis, complete with corrupt police, dishonest merchants, and brothels. Their arrest puts them into a court system where lawyers physically fight their cases in an arena. While in prison, they discover Aldana. Although this book is the third in a planned series of 12, it can also stand alone. The fast-paced plot, wacky creatures, and manga feel of this French import will make the book popular.
