Bardhan Merida 2This is the second book in a new early reader chapter book series.  Merida, the Princess of DunBroch and the star of Disney‪/Pixar’s Brave, finds herself in a hullabaloo when she unknowingly makes an impulsive wish in the presence of a mischievous fairy. Merida has known Young Macintosh most of her life yet she has not created a positive relationship with him. When Merida takes the time to make the fairy’s spell right, she gets to know Ryan (also known as Young Macintosh). She learns that they share a dislike of haggis, a traditional pudding made of the heart, liver, etc., of a sheep or calf, minced with suet and oatmeal, seasoned, and boiled in the stomach of the animal. She learns that they have other commonalities including a passion for archery and horseback riding. I appreciated the theme of accepting others and friendship. This is a book that I look forward to adding to our classroom library.
