Book review: Search and Destroy, by Dean Hughes

Hughes, Dean. Search and Destroy. Atheneum, 2015 (2006). $9.99. ISBN 9781481427036. 213 pgs. Notes on Sources. Ages 12+. P7Q6.

Hughes Search and Destroy            Rick Ward is fascinated with war and enlists in the Charlie Rangers.  He ends up fighting in the Vietnam War and realizes that war is much more glorified than it actually seems.  The feelings expressed by the main characters are similar to many of the feelings that adolescent boys face, so connections can be easily made even if it isn’t specifically about war.  The writing isn’t particularly graphic in nature, but is descriptive in telling the effects of war on people of all ages, but especially younger generations.
