Book review: Murphy in the City, by Alice Provensen

Provensen, Alice. Murphy In the City. Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, 2015. $17.99. ISBN 978-1-4424-1971-1. Unp. Ages 4-8. P8/Q7

Provensen Murphy in the CityThe end papers are cute with tons of different colored paw prints. This story is about a little dog Murphy who lives on a boring farm. He gets to go for a car ride into the city where everything is exciting and fun. Unfortunately he gets away and is lost and is then picked up by the pound. When he gets back to the farm he is happy to be home. I think this could be a fun conversation starter about how sometimes it is fun to visit somewhere else but home is always the best place. I’m not sure the text used for the words are the best fit for this cute story. Written and illustrated by a Caldecott Medal winner.
