Book review: The Amazing Book Is Not On Fire: The World of Dan and Phil, by Dan Howell and Phil Lester

Howell, Dan and Phil Lester.  The Amazing Book Is Not On Fire: The World of Dan and Phil. Random House, 2015. $18.99. ISBN 9781101939840. 224 pgs. Ages 12+. P8Q5

Howell Amazing BookThis book is based on a YouTube show that these two men perform weekly.  The book is different interactions that the two men share with each other as well as with viewers of their weekly show.  I found it a little confusing and hard to follow since there didn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to how it was laid out, but a few of my sixth grade students were reading it at the same time I was and they thoroughly enjoyed it.  The two students also watch the YouTube show, so they have a different level of connection than I did.  The pictures and emojis used throughout the book make it more entertaining for the intended audience, but make it more difficult to read for people who are not as familiar with that type of format.  This book will be briefly popular, but will quickly fade with the next fad to hit young adults.
