Book review: This Way Home: A Novel, by Wes Moore and Shawn Goodman

Moore, Wes and Shawn Goodman. This Way Home: A Novel. Delacorte Press, 2015. $17.99. ISBN 9780385741699. 245 pgs. Ages 14+. P6Q6.

Moore This Way HomeElijah, the main character in this story, is a high school basketball star and wants to bring his team to the championship, but the local gangs want Elijah and his friends to wear the gang’s colors and when the team refuses horrible things begin to happen.  The tension and character building throughout the story is the only saving grace.  The ending is haphazard and somewhat unsatisfying.  The type is small which makes it hard to read, but the chapters are short which helps.  If this belongs in a library, it would be a high school library, but I’m not sure that it would be read often if at all.
