Book review: Fuzzy Mud, by Louis Sachar

Sachar, Louis. Fuzzy Mud. Delacorte Press, 2015. $16.99. ISBN 9780385743785. 181 pgs. Ages 8-12. P9Q9.

Sachar Fuzzy MudThis story is about a 5th grade girl and a 7th grade boy who take a “shortcut” home through the woods and discover mud that is covered in a radioactive material.  The two characters, and the 7th grader’s bully, get covered in the mud and the story follows what happens in the small town due to this problem.  The book is interesting in that each chapter is a progression in time, but every few chapters is a Government Court document about the case of the Fuzzy Mud.  This book will be picked up by children because of Sachar’s other novels, Holes, Wayside School, etc.  Fuzzy Mud will entertain readers just as Sachar’s other works.
