Book review: Friendshape, by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld

Rosenthal, Amy Krouse and Tom Lichtenheld. Friendshape. Scholastic Press, 2015. $16.99. ISBN 978-0-545-43682-3. Unp. Ages 1-4. P8 Q8

Rosenthal FriendshapeThe inside flap starts with “Friends shape who we are” and the front cover states “An uplifting celebration of friendship.” The characters in the story are simple drawings of different shapes like a circle, square, triangles, and other shapes. The story talks about what friends can do for you, such as make you feel at home. The fun thing is there is some humor for the adults to enjoy while they are reading the book aloud to young children such as “be careful you’re gonna be a wrecked angle.” This would be a great book for circle time and a discussion about friendship.
