Judge, Lita. Good morning to me! Atheneum Books for Young Readers, 2015. Unpaged. $17.99. ISBN 9781481403696. “Ages 4-8.” P8Q7
Lita Judge’s luminous, humorous illustrations of animals show character through the glint of an eye and the tilt of the head. Realistic images of dog and cat, goldfish and parrot draw us into the visually appealing world of an early morning household before most of the inhabitants waken. Unfortunately, Beatrix the parrot has a toddler-like need to interact with her world and an active sense of humor which leads her into mischief. In this household drama, mouse repeatedly saves Beatrix from the consequences of her mischief, until at last he becomes exasperated with her antics. Children will enjoy the repeated loud calls of “Good morning” as Beatrix reaches the end of her quiet patience and adults will appreciate her expressions of love for the other animals in her life. Recommended for preschool, kindergarten and public libraries.
