Book review: Billy’s Booger, by William Joyce

Joyce, William. Billy’s Booger: a memoir (sorta). Moonbot Books/Atheneum Books for Young Readers, 2015. $17.99. ISBN 978-1-4424-7351-5. Ages 4-8. P9 Q9

Joyce Billys BoogerIn this “sorta” true story about the writing of his first book in the fourth grade, William Joyce tells about how “Billy’s Booger” came to be. Billy is “reality challenged” but when a book writing contest is announced he get serious, does his research and writes what he thinks is the winning entry. Billy’s book does not win an award, but when it is put in the library his book is checked out the most. Great endpapers lead to a story within a story that is sure to be popular. This is a book that would encourage students to use their creativity and writing skills.
