Jinks, Catherine. A Plague of Bogles. (Bogle series, book 2.) Illustrated by Sarah Watts. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company, 2015. $16.99. ISBN 978-0-544-08747-7. 330 pages. Ages 9-13: P7Q6.

JInks Plague of BoglesIn this book 2 of 3, Jem finds himself apprenticed to Alfred the bogler, the man who rids London of child-eating monsters. Jem is the lure to capture these monsters and the suspense keeps the pages turning. Jem spent most of his early days in the streets working petty theft to make ends meet. During these hard times, he worked for Sarah Pickles until she betrayed him. Jem is haunted by the deepest desire for revenge. There is a mystery of orphans disappearing in the city and connections to Sarah Pickles are evocative. Thus, Jem is drawn to danger every step of the way. May 2015 review by Penny McDermott.
