Book review: The Navy’s night before Christmas, by Trish Holland and Christine Ford.

Holland, Trish and Ford, Christine. The Navy’s Night before Christmas. Illustrator John Manders. Golden Books, 2014. $10.99. ISBN 978-0-385-36998-5. 24 pages. Ages 4-8. P8Q9

This interesting twist on the classic tale shows Christmas Eve on a submarine with soldiers who are far from their families. Instead of Santa, Master Chief Claus brings gifts from home to give to the soldiers and then disappears into the night. This book has great illustrations and could connect well with children whose parents or loved ones are gone in the military and won’t be home for the holidays.
