Book review: Dear Malala, We Stand with You

McCarney, Rosemary with Plan International. Dear Malala, We Stand with You. Crown Books for Young Readers, 2014. $16.99. unp. 978-0-553-52120-7. Ages 5-8. P6Q7

Malala Yousafzai, badly injured when the Taliban shot her in the head because she spoke out for girls’ right to attend school, became the youngest person ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Included is an excerpt from her UN speech and suggestions on how readers can be activists in the young woman’s cause. This coffee-table book is written as a letter addressed to her in a call to action for girls around the world. Random House Children’s Books will donate part of the proceeds to Plan International’s Because I Am a Girl campaign. Second Story Press published a different version of the book with the letter as Every Day Is Malala Day.
