Book review: Eight Dolphins of Katrina, by Janet Coleman & Yan Nascimbene.

Coleman, Janet, Eight dolphins of Katrina a true tale of survival, illus. Yan Nascimbene, Houghton Mifflin Books for Children, 2013, $16.99, ISBN:978-0-547-71923-8, Gr. 5+, P 8, Q 8,

When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf states on August 6, 2005, many people were unable to get safely away. The same was true for the dolphins in the Marine Life Oceanarium in Gulfport, Mississippi. Only a few of the dolphins were taken to safety in hotel swimming pools and eight were left behind. When the storm was over the dolphin house was destroyed and the eight dolphins were nowhere to be found. This is an amazing story of these dolphins that were rescued from the Gulf after Hurricane Katrina ended. Color action shots and photographs enhance the text of this story.  February 2014 review by C.B.
